NAGOYA - Ukrainian sekiwake Aonishiki won the third championship of his career Sunday at the Nagoya Grand Sumo Tournament, prevailing in a three-way playoff after his final-day loss to fellow sekiwake Atamifuji forced extra bouts. The 22-year-old overcame a left big toe injury suffered midway through the 15-day meet and survived a title race that went down to the wire to lift the Emperor's Cup.
Here is a digest of the 15 days of competition.
